River of Words

Isn't that a poetic sounding title? Well that's no coincidence, but this is: The 4th and 5th graders at North Holland have been working on a poem for a contest entitled "River of Words." The theme was Watershed. Then in January, the Caldecott Honor Award was announced for a book entitled River of Words by Jen Bryant, illustrated by Melissa Sweet. The book is about a man named William Williams (why would a parent do that?!) who wrote poetry, but became a doctor to earn his living. Want another coincidence? The book was published by Eerdmans Books for Young Readers, just 1/2 hour away in Grand Rapids. The book is wonderful, and I hope you get a chance to read it.

What's your favorite award winning book? What did you like about it?
